NARS All Day Luminous and Sheer Glow in Siberia vs L'Oreal True Match in W1 Porcelain - Swatches

Since rediscovering L'Oreal True Match in W1 Porcelain and how light it is compared to most products high end and drugstore, I wanted to give a quick comparison swatch. I'll also add this to the roundup post I posted here. The skin on my face is around NC5-NC10 with my neck being lighter. These swatches are on my inner arm and is lighter than NC5.

NARS Luminous Siberia, NARS Sheer Glow Siberia, L'Oreal TM W1, LM Soft Porcelain, MAC MSFN in Light

I got samples of both the NARS All Day Luminous and Sheer Glow in Siberia from Sephora from fresh bottles. I stirred up the All Day Luminous like crazy since it's a formula that needs to be shaken, it separates in the bottle/sample jar. There seems to be a slight color difference in my swatch here between the formulas, but in person they seemed the same.

L'Oreal True Match in W1 Porcelain looks a tiny bit peachy compared to the truer yellow tones of the NARS Siberia swatches. I like to include the Laura Mercier Mineral Powder in Soft Porcelain because it is so very light and also quite yellow toned for reference. The Luminous formula doesn't sit well on my skin (enhances dryness) but the Sheer Glow seemed to work for me very similarly to the L'Oreal True Match - except it doesn't get as dewy/oily as quickly and lasts a bit longer. If I can finish the L'Oreal, I might consider replacing it with the Sheer Glow for the better longevity.

I hope this helped!

MAC Nordstrom Naturals Eyeshadow Palette Limited Edition - Swatches and First Impression

I could not resist this palette when I saw it on Nordstrom's site. Being a makeup person, I feel like MAC is a reference point and I only have one of these shadows, even if they aren't the end-all be-all, if you talk about MAC's Satin Taupe, people know what that looks like. This is a collection of 15 of their best selling shades, so you've likely heard of most of them - if not already own a good chunk.

It's $85 and limited edition, I didn't want to wait for swatches in case it sold out quickly - just crossed my fingers that the quality would be up to at the regular permanent shadows. It's available to buy from Nordstrom here.

I know some of these aren't people's favorite, things like Honey Lust is pretty chunky glitter (and my understanding is there's been two versions, I recall Christine at Temptalia having a swatch that looks more like mine, not much base color and lots of sparkles) and Carbon is often complained about being a lousy black. I can deal with softly pigmented blacks myself, if the texture is good.

Wet 'N Wild Vegan Culture Palette Swatches - Limited Edition Spring 2015

So I was in Walgreens for my monthly prescription pickup+makeup browse and what did I see, a limited edition Wet 'N Wild display! I feel like I never see these at my Walgreens, so of course I plopped myself down to check it out. A minty shade was among the options and I couldn't resist. I have been rambling on twitter for quite a while now about my *need* of a perfect mint shadow. I've bought two shadows prior (one returned) that I thought would be The One but sadly did not deliver on my very particular minty shadow craving. I should have known I should just wait until spring when the pastels come out!

Vegan Culture had to be mine! This is very close, if not exactly the color I was looking. I was worried though because some of the more recent limited edition palettes from Wet 'N Wild haven't gotten the best reviews. It's tricky to get lighter shades sometimes, so even though I was also interested in the purple palette I decided to stick with just this one (not to mention I have a lot of purple eyeshadow as it is).

Foundation Swatches with Very Fair/Pale Skin NC5-10: Drugstore and High End

I made a video with all sorts of swatches on my hands but it turns out they were a little hard to see, so I have inserted pictures into the video but wanted to post them here as well! I know I prefer to see swatches in a blog post, so hopefully this will be helpful for anyone looking for ideas with very fair/pale skin. I will embed the video at the end of this post if you're interested, but have summarized my thoughts here. My video also has links to demos of a few of these products if you're interested!

I have dry to very dry cheeks, oily t-zone with an acne-prone chin; most liquid foundation and concealer settles into my pores and is altogether rather frustrating. My shade is around NC5-10 with neutral to warm undertones on my face, my neck is a bit lighter. My hands are about the same as my neck and chest, but these swatches were done on my inner arm which is lighter than my neck/hands/chest. But hopefully this will give you an idea of how deep the shades are and what sort of undertones they have. I have also rediscovered a very good, quite light drugstore option that's mentioned in the bottom image that I purchased after this video. :)

  • Missha Signature Real Complete in shade #13: very fair and pink clay/beige, doesn't agree with my skin and looks dry - but compares in lightness to L'Oreal True Match W1 and NARS Siberia but with a pink clay/beige undertone
  • MAKE UP FOR EVER Face & Body #38 Pink Porcelain: a little dark but works with my skin, wish it was lighter and more yellow
  • Laura Mercier Creme Smooth Foundation in Porcelain Ivory: extremely yellow - and I generally prefer yellow shades - doesn't sit that great on my dry cheeks, too emollient for my oily/acne prone areas
  • Maybelline Fit Me Foundation in #110: more neutral toned, doesn't sit well on my skin but may try again soon
  • OCC Skin Conceal in Y0: I use this mainly sheered out across cheeks and on brow bone to tone down freckles near my crease, it's okay but too emollient for oily areas as well
